Should I go to law school? I’ve been entertaining the idea of going, as it’s something that has always interested me. I hesitate to start the application process, though, for several reasons. The first being that my husband and I are already in debt and I don’t think we could take on any more for student loans. Secondly, my husband’s job is not secure, so if he loses it we would be in big trouble if I wasn’t working, either. We also want to have kids some time in the future, but my husband works in a field without much flexibility and I’m not sure if I’d get much as a lawyer. I don’t want to give up on a dream, but it seems like the timing is bad.
I would never hire you as a lawyer. All the evidence is right there in front of you, yet you just don’t see it.
I don’t want to spit in your cornflakes here, but I definitely think you shouldn’t go. You can’t afford it, things might get worse financially, and frankly, it doesn’t seem like your burning passion. And without that, you’re sunk, because pretty much everyone I know who went to law school immediately, upon graduation, decided that they hate the law, other lawyers, and law firms, and then went to cooking school or started an alpaca farm.
Focus on getting a good, stable job that’s interesting enough, and spend a little more time thinking about what you REALLY want to do before you muck everything up for a whim.
